Advocacy Alert: Calls Needed

Thank you for continuing to stand up for those who face hunger in our region. The Coalition Against Hunger is working to protect the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP or food stamps) from devastating cuts in the federal budget. Through our Protect SNAP campaign, more than 1,500 emails have been sent to legislators so far this year! Now is the time to let your voice be heard. Please call your local representative in Congress and tell them you oppose cuts to SNAP!

Calls are Needed Now!

National Call-in Days-Tuesday and Wednesday (10/3-10/4): We are joining our friends at the Food Research and Action Center (FRAC) in mounting calls to Members of Congress to oppose the pending Budget Resolution

  1. If you know your Congressperson, go to step 2. If not, you can enter your address here
  2. Dial 202-225-3121 for the Capitol Switchboard
  3. Urge your Member of Congress to vote "no" on the FY 2018 House Budget Resolution, which would make hunger and poverty far worse in this country and would set up a process for tax cuts tilted to the wealthy at the expense of programs that serve low and moderate income people.
  4. Circulate this blog post to your networks!

Where We Stand

Many U.S. Representatives are on the fence regarding the budget! The time is NOW to push them and let them know that a budget should not be passed at the expense of our friends, family members and neighbors who are struggling to put food on the table.

What to Say

We realize that calling your Congressman can be nerve-racking! When you call, you will speak to a staff member for your representative. Simply introduce yourself as a constituent and tell them what you are calling about:

"I am calling to ask Congressman (Your Congressman's name) to vote "NO" on the budget resolution because it will cut funding for human needs programs that are critical to ending hunger and poverty."

That's it! Once you pass along your message it will be officially registered by the staff member. If enough of us call, we can put the pressure on our congressmen to vote against these horrible cuts!
